Calling on all cat lovers for a little help... my cat/dog likes chewing the artificial tree.
The yucky tasting stuff (ex: bitter apple) that you spray on things to make them not chew.
He loves the stuff!
To keep him out from beneath it we put things that have pokie ends... he loves laying on them.
So no ornaments on the tree this year as he also loves to run and take a flying leap into the tree!
I cannot put gifts under the tree... he eats paper and cardboard... HELP!

Well you could spray him with water every time me gets near it. We gave up. We put two baby gates at the door. We have a baby gate up to keep the dog in the living room. But when the tree goes up we put a gate on top of the other gate. So for a month I live in a gated community, LOL. Hopes this helps.

Thank Gina.
Water does not work for him…. He takes a bath with my son.
Right now we are trying using the air can. (the ones that people use to spray dust out of computers)
That only works for seconds, as you soon see him down on his haunches like he is stalking a bird… Only he is trying to sneak back to the tree.
I think he just wants to be a part of all the pretty decorations..wants to have input. You can't stay mad at a face like that!
I do have to admit that his Christmasy Picture is just way too cute and very adorable...awwww the poor lil thing...he just wants to check everything out and play with it is all....
Just keep spraying Water on him and than he will get the idea eventually.
I would not use the Air Can that we use for our Computers. That might be dangerous for his lungs and his heart.
Take care & Happy Stitching

I've never had a cat that liked the water bottle. So that idea won't help you much.
Honestly, I'd contact your vet.
I suppose he'd just climb over if you put the tree in a playpen... Sorry, I can't help! One of the cutest pictures we have of our grandbunny is of her under our tree eating a package. They are all onery, aren't they?!
Linda,
The air can is only used at his rear. LOL
CalamityJR,
playpen and gates will not work.
He can jump up as high as the tree.
I use 1 habanero pepper chopped, 1 ounce horseradish root chopped, 1 tblsp crushed red pepper, mixed with vinegar and spray on the cardboard under the tree. Keeps cats, dogs & kids away. :0)
the only thing that ever worked for mne was hot pepper sauce . . put it where they were chewing and they sure left it alone after one bite.
